There’s something special about discovering a restaurant that delights you not once, but twice in a single day. Pepper Tree Restaurant turned out to be just that kind of gem — a charming escape tucked away with both daylight ease and nighttime magic. I had the pleasure of enjoying both lunch and dinner there on the same day, and trust me, it was a delicious decision.

The afternoon found me downstairs at Pepper Tree, where the ambiance was relaxed and filled with natural light. The sun filtered through leafy plants and large windows, creating a warm, inviting vibe. The hum of light chatter mixed with the clinking of cutlery set a tone that was equal parts cozy and casual — the kind of setting that makes you exhale in comfort.
I went for something classic and hearty: a juicy burger served with crispy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside sweet potato fries and some wings. The fries came with a delightful trio of dipping sauces — one saucy, one creamy and one with just the right kick of heat. To balance out the meal, I had a refreshing glass of green juice, which was vibrant, earthy, and just what I needed to cool down in the afternoon heat.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, I made my way upstairs. If the day was cozy and calm, the night was nothing short of magical. Twinkling string lights cast a golden hue over everything, illuminating the space in a way that made every corner feel like a soft-lit photo backdrop. It was the kind of place where time slows down — where each bite, each laugh, and each moment is savored.
Dinner was truly next-level. I began with the Tokyo Teriyaki Chicken — a beautifully roasted spring chicken glazed with a bold ginger teriyaki sauce. It was golden brown and glossy, with skin that crackled just slightly before giving way to juicy meat. On the side, a refreshing red cabbage slaw added crunch, while the pineapple fried rice gave the whole plate a subtle tropical twist.
But the standout dish of the night? The Jerusalem Lamb Chops. Spice-infused and tender, they were layered with the unexpected yet glorious combination of mango amba, Yemeni Zhoug, and cucumber raita. Each bite was bold and exciting. The spiced rice and tahini slaw on the side brought balance, texture, and heartiness. To sip, I chose a lemon mint mocktail — cool, citrusy, and the perfect contrast to the warmth of the spices.

For my outing, I kept it simple and timeless: crisp white trousers and a striped top, comfortable yet chic. I laced up my trusted white Ngomas — a classic staple that carries both comfort and nostalgia. To top it off and fight the evening chill, I wrapped myself in a soft pink shawl — functional but with just enough flair to add a feminine touch.

At some point, caught in the glow of the lights and good food, I found myself holding one of the table candles like a playful sorceress summoning joy. The photo — warm lighting, cheeky grin, candle in hand — captured the whimsy of the night. It was one of those candid moments that felt like a snapshot of pure contentment and fun.

Pepper Tree offered me more than a meal — it gave me an experience. From the casual charm of lunch downstairs to the ethereal beauty of dinner upstairs, it felt like the perfect way to spend a day. Great food, warm service, and an atmosphere that transitions beautifully from day to night — what more could one ask for?
I’ll definitely be back, and next time.
