Mademoiselle Rutere
Hi, I’m Purity Rutere, a twenty-something lifestyle blogger behind Mademoiselle Rutere. It will be my pleasure to share with you the things that matter to me; beauty, self-care, healthcare, fashion and my favorite, food.

I couldn’t stop the goofy smile on my face when I learn’t one of my good friend’s had a bun in the oven. Well it seems like I’ve entered a new stage of life where it’s soon to be all about weddings and babies! Yeeiiy!
Congrats on your new born.

Last month was my friend’s birthday. Instead of doing the usual part we decided that we should try something different this time round. After weeks of research on the best place to be and what to do we settled down for the Lord Erroll.
We chose the place because, one – it was something new. Never had we ever decided to do dinner on any of our birthday’s ever since the beginning of time. Normally, being typical Kenyans , birthday’s meant long nights of drinking and sampling out clubs in the city, discovering new drinking joints and so on.
We wanted somewhere chilled and relaxed, away from our usual, and Lord Erroll being located inside the posh Runda estate, automatically disqualified all the other places that we had thought of, and secondly none of us had ever been to the place.
I don’t know how easily accessible it is when using a jav. That day I was driving and google maps came in handy that day. Yay! to google maps. I can write a whole paragraph about how helpful google maps is.. but then again that would be digressing and we don’t want to go there… or do we?
Now if you hear a restaurant is located in a posh area, your mind automatically brings you to the land of Utopia. The place is beautiful indeed. Starting with the polished mahogany floors, large veranda going around the whole house which opens up to a lush and well manicured lawn to the various artworks done by various Kenyan artists all over the place, entwining the colonial english and modern Kenyan feel. We were lucky enough not to miss the warm evening sun as it shone on the area bringing out the hidden beauty of the area.
The service at Lord Erroll was exceptional; starting from the lady who received us at the reception who was more than willing to show us to our seats, especially when she noticed we were a bunch of rookies in the area, where she handed us to our waiter…who was more than kind to us. (At this point I wish I remembered his names), took us through what they have on the menu and what it was, thus simplifying our choice of meal.
For our starter, we had some onion rings that was accompanied with tartar sauce, assorted bread , assorted butter…

I didn’t mention this because I can’t remember what it is… It was yum!

The food took 20 – 30 minutes to be prepared from the time we ordered. Everything was going on well, the cool breeze, the ambiance, the laughter’s from the hilarious stories we had and watching the moon as it settled in to its position, not until when the food was placed on the table.
I had ordered some grilled lamp chops and some potato lyonnaise, Janet decided to go with the grilled snapper fillet and some parsley potatoes as the accompaniment while Kiki (The Birthday Girl) went for the Duck a l’orange with some lyonnaise potatoes.

To start with the food was too little as you will see from the pictures above, the potato lyonnase were over fried they were as crunchy as potato crisps(I didn’t like them at all), the lamp chops were okay the quantity though… For Janet her meal was not as appetizing as she had expected. Both the fish and parsley potatoes didn’t have enough salt , for Kiki, yes the lyonnase potatoes were over fried as stated earlier and the duck was under seasoned leave alone it’s presentation on the plate. All in all, I would say I didn’t get value for my money compared to what we got and the excitement that had built up at the beginning just melted away. Underwhelmed is an understatement.
I must say I was pretty dissappointed with how the food turned out to be. We launched our complains and I hope something was done about it.
Will I be returning there? – For the food? I don’t think so. Though I will be looking out for other people’s reviews over time and see if the food has improved. Maybe then I will go back. Otherwise the ambience is spectacular.
As always happy reading.

I’d be happy to read about your restaurant experiences..both good and horrible.

restaurant review- The Mayura
Today I snuck off to have late lunch with an old-time friend. ‘I have some things to do in the city,’ I mumbled to my colleagues as I backed ruefully out the door. It was a meet up that was long overdue as we had postponed it severally and honestly I was almost losing hope given our busy schedules.
At 4:30 we met, and decided to do Indian food. None of us had ever tried Indian food and we were hoping our taste buds will not be disappointed by our hasty decisions. As we strolled through The Sarit Centre, I remembered an Indian restaurant(The Mayura) which I had set my sight on for a pretty long time now. It was at the Kenrail towers.
Now if you are a regular at Westlands, I’m pretty darn sure that you have seen the Kenrail Towers which is in the same surrounding as Sarit Center and Sankara on ring road…and right there is where you will find the Mayura restaurant. Incase you still have no clue, google maps will be your best guide.
Before I get to what we ordered, I have to give their interior decor a thumbs up as you might have seen on my instagram feed. The ambiance is modern yet cozy and inviting. They have added warm, quirky elements to the decor that soften up the entire feel of the place making it relaxed and a place you would generally just want to hang out all day long. It is family friendly as they have a kid-play area.
Not to forget, they have a separate, very beautiful VIP room, that can sit about 10 people but still have them enjoy the spoils of the restaurant, just away from everyone else. I found it perfect for a private business meeting, an intimate family lunch or even a birthday party or just any party with only your close friends.
To start with we went in with the Masala Pappadums as my starter which came with some vegetable salad. We then ordered the grand platter (it contained a bunch of assorted meat), which was out of this world amazing, especially if you get to add their freshly made sauces so you need not worry about eating stale sauce. With the grand platter also came the butter naan(This is basically baked chapatis).
The grand platter by the way is also a starter, but by the time we were done with it, I was too full to want more food.

The truth is none of us had any idea what to expect and it turned out to be one of the best evenings I’ve experienced. So good that a couple of hours later, we were already making plans for when we’d go back. Absolutely stunning!

For my out fit of the day, I decided to go with a beige khaki trouser, where i paired it with this peach top just to break the monotony. And then decided to match the blazer with my shoes, belt and bag.

The day started off in a gloomy way. I was actually debating on whether I should really get out of the house given the aftermath of the rains…Muddy shoes, puddles to jump over, clothes not drying fast enough… and were it not for my friend and the fact that I really needed to take pictures, you can rest assured that I would be snuggled under the covers with my favorite hot drink and a good show to dive into.
That being said, I really appreciated the three hour walk that I got to have with Ryan and Pesh at Karura. Being my first time there( I must admit is quite a shame having lived in Nairobi my whole life). The ambiance, the fresh air, the sun rays falling in between the trees creating some beautiful shifting hues… and I can go on and on and on about the place. Not to forget It is a pretty awesome place to do some bike riding too which I didn’t get to enjoy…there is always a next time.
For my look, I decided to go with something simple and cozy, up, bottom and feet. To rid off the plain view of my outfit I put on this lovely neck piece, which I was glad to have stumbled upon.
I hope you guys have an incredible week ahead.
As always happy reading and I do enjoy seeing your thoughts on the comment session.

June is here, which means the year is almost half over too. As the days whizz by, it’s good to cast the net and gather in some of the thoughts, feelings, things, people, places and ideas that have been milling about. Here are mine, for June!
Making: Millions of memories and appreciating every little moment in my life.
Drinking: Green Tea. Always green tea. Green Tea times 123.
Reading: Fire on the mountain by Anita Desai. Because i have been loving some African Literature.
Trawling: Through old photos of pre-Instagram life. So good. So imperfect!
Wanting: to work hard, make money, see the world.
Deciding: on what to do next.
Wishing: For some new jeans. High waisted and stretch-ish, one in black and the other in white. Suck-in-ish, even, but not so they fold you in half.
Enjoying: The quiet and easy morning int he office. I hope the day end will continue being good to me
Liking: This story about show-off cockatoos. Such hooligans. Much drumming.
Wondering: How people are able to keep their white shoes white.
Loving: Some alone time.
Listening: To some bible teaching by Jon Courson
Buying: New toothbrushes. Oh hurrah. I’ve been on a tight budget, so new toothbrushes is pretty exciting to me. (What kind do you have? Are some better than others?)
Hoping: The dust settles soon. Life is a bit bonkers right now. People are confusing.
Needing: To focus my many bright ideas into the one I want to work on right now.
Questioning: Everything, always, sigh, shoosh.
Wearing: my favorite official dress. i love it because it doesn’t require any ironing in the morning, which technically buys me more time to sleep. yaaay!
Admiring: People who try to help.
Getting: Hungry. Needing toast. Or maybe some fried rice. With heaps of chilli? Yes. A Vietnamese pork roll even? Sure…and it’s just 9:30 A.M
Opening: A packet of TicTacs.
Closing: All the windows to keep the heat trapped.
Feeling: Tired. Quiet. I had the flu. And a tummy bug. So I’m trying to feel 100 percent again.
Hearing: pages being flipped.
Pretending: I’m as productive as I want to be (I’m not really!)
Embracing: Recovering from a fortnight of various stupid illnesses.

Ask a child to draw a garden, and he/she will draw some flowers. Give a gardener no more space than a front stoop, and what will appear there is a flowerpot. For many, gardens are well defined by flowers.
I got to really understand this concept when I first laid my eyes on this garden. The pictures doesn’t do it justice, trust me. And I thought I should share with you some of the pictures taken.
Do have yourselves a lovely week.

Because of love…

Photgraphy by Ryan.
Who else is not loving the weather?
As I write this I am sitting snuggled under a blanket as the rain hits the window, it’s gloomy and cold even though it’s May it has me a little excited for the sunny days to come. The weather of late has proved to be a little tricky.
I’ve had this dress in my closet for a long time but pulled it out for this beautiful and well kept garden with brightly colored blooms. What I love about the dress is the the V-shaped neck line detail, combined with the detail at the waist area that just won my heart. Did I mention it also feels luxe. Although knowing me, who knows how long it’ll really stay in this pristine white. I’m almost scared to wear it out around food… ha!
I hope you are having a wonderful evening.

MOTHERS DAY GIFT GUIDE
With mothers day coming up tomorrow, I thought I should list down what I’d like to consider as the Ultimate Mother’s Day Gift List. If you’re one of those people who:
1) Hasn’t yet found a gift for mum yet.
&
2) You are a mum and you don’t really trust what your loved ones are going to get you and would rather point them in the right direction.
Happy gifting!
This can be a little bit tricky because of the sensitivity of the skin but if you get this right I’m sure your mum will appreciate it. When it comes to skin care you can try oriflame.
We can never get enough of pairs of heels. You can get this pair from pamplemousse_ke
Handbags do speak volumes and does compliment an outfit too. Don’t you think so? If you would like to grab your mum or maybe yourself this bag, just leave me a comment below.
What is more relaxing than a day in the spent. Find your way to the 25th Hive Spa. The prices are pretty affordable Adding icing to the cake, you can have a swim inclusive of the price paid at the spa It’s located at green palms, Marist lane, Karen.
***Lots of love***
